Control reminds me of half life 2/portal/source games

Obviously control is its own game franchise and use its own engine (north light) but the emphasis on object manipulation and individual items reminds me so much of games like portal and half life. I even found a crowbar in one of the levels which makes me think some of the devs were half life fans. I have played so many games but this one is the one that reminds me the most of valve games. Another thing remedy does in a lot of games that reminds me of games like portal and half life is the emphasis on mundane objects. For example in portal the companion cube and cake.
