/food/gardening/ Bio-Engineered Purple Tomato
Hey Digg!
There isn't a /gardening community yet, so I guess I am going to post this in /food. I grew the Althea Purple Tomato this last season and the results were stunning.
They are bio-engineered by Norfolk Healthy Produce to have high levels of antioxidants in the skin and the flesh, giving them a deep purple color and a savory, almost berry like flavor.
These things looked and tasted amazing as you can see with the caprese skewers. The tomatoes grow very tall, and prolific in my zone(8b).
They are true to seed, and will come back the same each year. I’ve saved quite a bit of their seeds and have had a very high germination rate, so I’d love to share my extras with the Digg community!
The Rules (Patented Variety):
USA Only.
Home Use Only: For your personal garden only.
No Sales: No selling of seeds, plants, or fruit is permitted.
How to get seeds: I am sending out seeds (first-come, first-served) via Self-Addressed-Stamped-Envelope. To keep my info private, I’m using a single question on google forms to manage the queue.
Click the link to get my PO Box address and instructions. I’ll send a pinch of seeds to everyone who sends an envelope until I run out. I will update this post once I’m out of stock!
This year I have 3 new bio-engineered tomato seeds from them, and one is called "The BETA" and is ultra high in beta-carotene. Also, I save lots of seeds each year that I annually grow and I think a Gardening section on Digg would be an amazing place to have an annual seed swap!
