Favorite Criterion Collection DVD/Blu-Ray?
Before YouTube one of the best ways to learn about how to make a great film was by watching the "behind the scenes" clips included on DVDs. But no one did it better than the Criterion Collection. Silence of the Lambs is considered one of the best in their collection.
In 2018 Eric Melin dives into the Blu-Ray edition here in his article on the Scene Stealers website.
Some the highlights are:
Multiple audio commentaries — including one by director Jonathan Demme (detailing shooting choices, working with actors, building tension), another with stars Jodie Foster and Anthony Hopkins (insight into performances and character prep), plus screenwriter Ted Tally and real FBI profiler John Douglas (explaining the psychological realism and research behind the Lecter/Starling dynamic).
Deleted scenes with optional commentary.
Behind-the-scenes featurettes and interviews with cast/crew covering makeup effects (for Lecter's look), cinematography, location shooting, and the film's innovative style.
FBI crime classification manual excerpts and "Voices of Death" (real statements for context on serial killers).
