Humans sense of smell

Humans can smell petrichor (that earthy smell after it rains) at lower concentrations than a shark can smell blood in water. The compound that causes the smell is called geosmin and we can detect it at around 5 parts per trillion. Likely an evolutionary thing since being able to smell rain coming would have helped our ancestors find water.
