In 2024, the EU economy’s greenhouse gas emissions by economic activities and households totalled 3.3 billion tonnes of CO2 equivalents, a 1% decrease from 2023 and a 20% reduction since 2013. The energy sector saw the sharpest decline at 49%, while mining and quarrying, manufacturing, and services also recorded double-digit reductions. Transportation and storage, along with construction, were the only sectors with increased emissions. The greenhouse gas emissions intensity, a measure of emissions per unit of economic output, decreased by 34% from 2013 to 2024.
