2025 was the third-hottest year ever recorded on Earth, data shows
According to Copernicus, the European Union’s climate monitoring service, 2025 was the third-hottest year ever recorded on Earth. The average global temperature was 1.47 degrees Celsius higher than the pre-industrial era, driven by the accumulation of greenhouse gases. The past 11 years have been the warmest on record, and temperatures have exceeded the 1.5 degrees Celsius mark for three consecutive years, jeopardizing the Paris Agreement's goal. The U.S. has been scaling back climate regulations and withdrawing from international climate agreements, while global emissions continue to rise.
