Did Sex Drive lift the DiggNation duo, or am I the only one who saw this?
Now that it’s really hitting me that the DiggNation community is gathering again, I feel like I have to finally ask this.
I didn’t see Sex Drive when it came out in 2008. I watched it years later, probably after Digg had already been pronounced dead. Watching it outside the moment made something jump out at me hard.
Ian and Lance felt so close to the DiggNation dynamic that it honestly stopped me for a second. Same era energy. Same straight-man plus chaos-bro rhythm. Same banter feel. Close enough that my first thought was, “How did this never become a Digg thread?”
And that’s what’s messing with me now.
DiggNation was absolutely kicking butt around the same time Sex Drive came out, and this feels like exactly the kind of thing that would have been argued on the front page if someone had posted it back then. If Digg had been around when I finally saw the movie, I would’ve gone straight to the boards to see if anyone else was saying the same thing. But I honestly can’t find any memory of this ever coming up.
So I’m throwing it to the people who were actually there.
Did anyone else watch Sex Drive and immediately clock the DiggNation similarity, or am I just late to something everyone else already argued about years ago?
Digg it up if you see it.
Digg it down if you don’t.
And if you do see it, what Ian/Lance scene made it click for you?
Also genuinely curious, now that we’re all back here, if this ever rang any bells at the time for @kevinrose.
