Successfully Installed Xeno GC Mod Chip - Gamecube DOL-001
This install was a little more difficult than I anticipated.
I decided to use wiring instead of the ‘overlay’ method before. This is some of the smallest scale soldering I’ve done.
Installed the chip, confirmed a successful install by booting while holding start on the controller, then fine-tuned the laser pot in iterations. When testing with a multimeter the laser pot needed to be adjusted to a lower ohm reading than I thought it would.
1) System still boots to Swiss via PicoBoot 👍
2) System reads OEM discs 👍
3) System reads burned discs as well 🥳
I also suspect my first chip install in a previous post was also successful, but I failed to dial in the laser pot settings properly.
I’ll hang onto that board as a spare - just in case.
Total History
~I bought a Gamecube with a nonworking ODD
~Modded system with PicoBoot
~Swiss installed on RPi Pico
~System reads data off of SD2SP2 adapter
~Recapped /repaired the ODD board, to allow reading OEM discs
~Successfully installed Xeno GC mod chip to allow reading burned discs
The only thing left is to replace the CR2032 battery - didn’t have a tabbed one or a battery holder/mount on hand. That’s for next time.
