An investor advocacy group, Investors for Paris Compliance, has warned over a dozen Canadian oil and gas companies that environmental liabilities could become a voting issue at their annual shareholder meetings. The group has identified 'material gaps' in the companies' 2024 disclosures regarding funds set aside for decommissioning operations, which could impact billions in shareholder capital. They urge the audit committees to explain their assumptions around costs, commodity prices, asset lives, and other matters, as well as to disclose how their financial position may change under a scenario with a faster transition away from fossil fuels and to reflect transition risks in financial reporting.
