North Huntsville's nightlife district has introduced a coordinated security approach involving 18 bars and restaurants that use a shared identification scanning system to prevent violent incidents. The network enables venues to share information about patrons who have caused problems, alerting security when a banned patron tries to enter any participating venue. Business owners Marc Patton and Jabar Westbrook have reported positive customer responses and believe the system creates a deterrent effect. While not all participating bars have started using the scanners, full implementation is expected in January.
